Toning helps to regulate the nervous system and brings sacred frequencies created by your own vocal chords into all of your tissues and all of your cells and bring all of the water molecules in your body into harmoniously interlinked patterns.
The toning for each chakra are pretty similar. But we are going to kind of link them together more towards the end of the eight weeks. But the main thing that I really want to encourage you to do is to, not give a fuck what you sound like, IT DOES NOT MATTER. You are not doing it wrong. You can't do it wrong.
In this video I will show you how to tone properly in terms of your anatomy, but other than that, the sounds that come out don't matter.
The root chakra is associated with the frequency of 256 Hertz. It’s a pretty low frequency sound. This one probably is the lowest that we will go.
The main purpose is letting yourself make sound with your whole body. A lot of the times when we talk, especially when we sing - a lot of us sing or talk entirely from the neck up, just like how there are two ways to breathe. You can breathe just into your chest or you can breathe all the way into the belly.
So we're actually going to start there by just really focusing on pulling your breath all the way into your belly.
Also since this is our intro video, the videos in the later modules will be shorter.
I'm just giving you the rundown on toning and just specifically, and the root tone, it's called the root for a reason. Cause it is the root of them all and it's the most important. So of all the tones for you to really feel good about - I want it to be this tone. So let's start with the breaths as I mentioned.
Oftentimes we breathe only in our chest, so it's really important to bring our awareness into pulling breath into the belly. One of the ways that I like to do that as I like to actually place the hand on my belly
I'll take a deep inhale through the nose and make sure that I feel my belly expanding and then the chest rises. It's a very subtle, and then as you exhale chest first, then belly. So again, inhale through the nose, fill up belly first, then chest. An exhale chest and then belly. Let's practice that a couple more times.
Inhale belly, chest exhale, chest belly, inhale, belly, chest exhale, just and belly.
Inhale belly, chest exhale, chest belly. That's the motion that we're going for in life. It's very important. If you can, if you can make that happen with your breath, just definitely go for it. But with the toning, it's also really important. Pull your breath all the way into your belly.
So oftentimes before we tone to, it's nice to just kinda like do a little bit of massage on the throat and even kind of wiggle the voicebox back and forth, open the jaw, kind of massage the sides of the face, this point back here by the ear by the ear.
We're going to take a deep inhale and first just going to listen to my tone.
Belly is fully relaxed in a total splat. We're not sucking in the belly here. We're full on releasing the pelvic floor, letting all the muscles in the body relax. When you give it a try, take a deep inhale through your nose, filling up the belly, and then let out the sound.
Sometimes it feels good to kind of hum, after you close the mouth and also like, if this is so weird to you and you're like, WTF right now - just start with the hum.
When we close our two outer eyes and go inward as we listen to this tone and really just let the sound integrate into yourself. And sometimes you might visualize the sound traveling into your cells. You might just allow yourself to feel it. That's really what I do.
I just kind of like, let myself feel it. And then specifically, if you have an area of your body that needs love. You can send the sound there. So that's another thing that you can try. As you can see, each tone that you make is really about 10 to 15 seconds. So when you come to your Sadhana in the morning and you're doing your toning, you'll do this, you know, a minimum of four times.
And I'm going to actually just show you my belly so that you can see. Ways to tell if you're doing it from your throat or whether you're doing it from your belly.
If you're doing it from your throat, it’ll be shorter and may hurt your jaw or sound nasal-y. When you're doing it properly from your belly, the sound will pulse and waver as you pump your belly with your hands.
I absolutely want you to do is pulse on your belly to see if you’re doing it properly.
When my husband was teaching me how to do this, he would sit behind me and he’d use his hands to pulse on my belly. So if you can get someone involved or maybe you have kiddos and you want to teach them and have them be involved, you do their belly, they do your belly.
It can be a totally fun activity. And it's really great for the nervous system. I can't even tell you what this has done to me. So many other things can happen during this practice. I find that the things that happen tend to be in the higher ranges, at least for me, which we'll get there, but for you, things may happen right here.
You might like tear up, you might yawn, you might burp, you might fart, things happen. Please lean into that as well.
That's really just like our intro to toning and then specifically the root toning that you're going to be doing over the next week.
If you want to get more specific into the Bija mantra for the root chakra, it's LAM.
I like to pulse my stomach because it helps me stay in my body. A lot of the time when you're toning you can get really in your head about the fact that you’re making a weird noise. You may think…this is weird, but really, your body is such a powerful instrument.
So please use it! Use it for your healing, use it for your own nervous system regulation so that you can rise into your Goddess Status so that you can hold that frequency of “I got this. I'm grounded into my root. I feel solid.” Even if you don't feel solid, now you have a practice that you can do to help you get solid.
If your nervous system gets out of whack, something happens, you feel your heart pumping, TONE. If you're a mama and you've given birth, I'm sure you know exactly how powerful toning can be to get through pain. Imagine using that same medicine, the vibrational sound coming from your own, internal chords, and remember that what we’re hearing is the tone on the outside, but our cells are getting a completely different experience because it's coming from the inside!
That's really the power of it. I do think it's also really nice to listen to these powerful frequencies. Maybe with a bowl that's tuned to 256 Hertz, or, you know, sometimes there's things on YouTube that can help get you into that space, but there's nothing that's more powerful than your own voice.
I feel really good when I tone. I want to hear how it makes you feel, and it's also good to come and reinforce the other women who sometimes it can be confronting to make weird sounds. But you're not alone. We're all doing it together. We're all making word sounds together. And this is just the beginning Goddess! We're going to make so many weird sounds so GET READY!
